Learning to drive is about more than just passing a road test, it’s about developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become a safe, responsible driver. Our Graduated Licensing Program (GLP) is designed to help new drivers achieve confidence behind the wheel by combining professional instruction, practical driving experience, and structured learning.
What Is the Graduated Licensing Program?
The Graduated Licensing Program is an ICBC-approved driver education program that provides new drivers with a comprehensive approach to learning how to drive. By combining classroom theory, self-paced learning, and in-car instruction, students gain a deeper understanding of road safety, defensive driving techniques, hazard awareness, and responsible decision-making.
Students who successfully complete our approved GLP course may qualify for benefits that include a reduction of the Novice (“N”) stage by six months and the opportunity to earn two high school graduation credits.
A Complete Learning Experience
DriveWise BC’s GLP program combines three essential learning components:
Classroom Instruction
Classroom sessions provide students with the foundational knowledge needed to become safe drivers. Topics often include:
Students can choose between traditional in-person classroom instruction or instructor-led online learning (zoom), allowing them to select the format that best fits their schedule and learning style.
Self-Paced E-Learning
The DriveWise BC GLP program supplements classroom or zoom lessons with online learning modules that students can complete at their own pace. These lessons reinforce key concepts and provide additional opportunities to review important driving principles before getting behind the wheel.
In-Car Driver Training
Practical driving experience is one of the most important parts of the GLP. Under the guidance of certified driving instructors, students gain real-world experience in a variety of traffic conditions and driving environments.
In-car lessons focus on:
Our instructors help students develop good driving habits from the very beginning, creating a strong foundation for long-term success on the road.
In-Person or Online: Which Option Is Right for You?
Today’s students have more flexibility than ever when choosing a driver education program
In-Person Classroom Learning
Traditional classroom instruction offers face-to-face interaction with instructors and classmates. Students can participate in discussions, ask questions in real time, and benefit from a structured learning environment that keeps them focused and engaged.
DriveWise BC’s classroom sessions are typically broken into 2 six hour sessions or 4 three hour sessions.
Online Classroom Learning
Online GLP programs provide the same core educational content through instructor-led virtual sessions. This option is ideal for busy students, families with demanding schedules, or those living outside major training areas. Our virtual students get the same benefits while maintaining engagement with cameras on direct questions from the instructor. Our online learning offers greater schedule flexibility while still providing direct access to experienced instructors.
DriveWise BC typically offers 3 four hour sessions, completed virtually, in order to fulfill the classroom component of the program.
Why Professional Driver Training Matters
Research and real-world experience consistently demonstrate that structured driver education helps new drivers develop safer driving habits and greater confidence behind the wheel. DriveWise instructors expose students to situations they may not encounter during casual practice with family members and provide immediate feedback to help correct mistakes before they become habits.
DriveWise BC’s comprehensive GLP program helps students:
Investing in Safer Driving
Choosing a Graduated Licensing Program is an investment in lifelong driving skills. Whether students prefer in-person classroom instruction or the convenience of online learning, the combination of theory, e-learning, and professional in-car training provides a well-rounded educational experience that prepares new drivers for the responsibilities of the road.
For many students, the benefits extend beyond passing a test. A quality GLP program helps create confident, knowledgeable drivers who are equipped to make safe decisions every time they get behind the wheel.
