DriveWise is excited to announce that our lesson options are evolving with the addition of fourteen new electric vehicles (EVs) to our training fleet, bringing our total to 17 electric vehicles out of 26 training cars. This marks another major step in our commitment to preparing new drivers for the future while reducing our environmental impact.

Learning to Drive the Cars of Tomorrow

Electric vehicles are no longer a niche technology. They’re becoming an everyday sight on Canadian roads, with more drivers making the switch every year. From regenerative braking to instant torque and one-pedal driving, EVs offer a driving experience that’s different from traditional, gasoline-powered vehicles.

Learning in an EV gives new drivers valuable experience with the technology they’ll likely own or drive in the future. It also helps build confidence with charging, energy efficiency, and other unique features that come with electric transportation.

By expanding our EV fleet, we’re ensuring students have the opportunity to learn in vehicles that reflect all the options available in the automotive industry.

A Bigger Impact

As a driving school, our vehicles spend far more time on the road than the average personal vehicle.

Every year, our fleet travels approximately 600,000 kilometres, that’s 40 times farther than the average household vehicle. With that much driving, even small improvements in efficiency create meaningful environmental benefits.

Here’s what that means today:

  • Our fleet currently produces approximately 138 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year, roughly the same as putting 30 additional passenger vehicles on the road.

  • Each individual driving lesson generates about 5.3 kilograms of CO₂ emissions in a gasoline-powered training vehicle.

These numbers highlight why transitioning our fleet matters. The more kilometres we drive, the greater the opportunity to reduce emissions.

Every Electric Vehicle Makes a Difference

Each electric training vehicle we add helps reduce our annual carbon footprint by approximately 8.4 tonnes of CO₂.

With 14 electric vehicles in service, we’re on track to reduce emissions by nearly 118 tonnes of CO₂ every year.

To put that into perspective, each EV in our fleet delivers the same annual carbon benefit as planting approximately 380 trees. Fourteen EVs represent the equivalent of removing thousands of kilograms of carbon emissions while helping hundreds of students gain experience behind the wheel of modern electric vehicles.

Investing in Students and the Environment

Adding electric vehicles isn’t just about reducing emissions, it’s about investing in the future of driver education.

Our students deserve the opportunity to learn using today’s technology while developing safe, responsible driving habits that will serve them for years to come. At the same time, we’re committed to doing our part to reduce the environmental impact of the extensive driving required to train thousands of new drivers each year.

As electric vehicles continue to become more common on our roads, we’re proud to be leading the way by giving our students the skills they need for tomorrow while making a meaningful difference today.
